NZTM grid

NewTopo maps utilise the New Zealand Transverse Mercator projection, are GPS compatible, and show a one-kilometre grid and a ten or fifteen-minute geographic graticule.

NZTM  "user-defined projection" details for GPS users:

Origin: 173º East. 0º South.  Central scale factor 0.9996

Datum: NZ Geodetic Datum 2000.  GPS users should use WGS84.

Grid: False Northing 10 000 000mN.  False Easting 1 600 000mE

Note: Some hand GPS units do not have enough digits to enter the full Northing value.  Enter 9 999 999.9mN

North: Magnetic North is slightly different on each map.
